Access and facilities for visitors with disabilities

The Priory and Museum are located in the heart of Whithorn. Public parking is approximately 70 m from the entrance, visitors can also be dropped off at the entrance to the monument and the museum. The entrance to the museum has a small threshold step (100 mm).

The Priory has a number of steps into the key areas of the monument. The lady chapel vaults have numerous level changes and are accessed down steps. Due to their age, some of the steps are worn. Light levels are low in the vaults as there are no windows to offer natural light. The floor surface is gravel.

The ruined Cathedral Priory Church sits on a small but steep hill; there is adjacent vehicle access. All entrances into the nave have at least one step and are approached across grass.

An accessible toilet is available in the Whithorn Trust Visitor Centre, The Whithorn Story, and public toilets in Whithorn. For assistance or additional information, telephone 01988 500508.

Facilities for children

The Whithorn Story is a hands-on interactive centre, which features authentic medieval clothes and art and craft activities for the young. The museum offers interlacing design facilities with souvenir bookmarks.
