About 450 – 500 AD Christianity reaches Whithorn.

Ninian is bishop of Whithorn.
563 AD Saint Columba arrives on Iona with 12 companions.
730 Monks from Northumbria found a new monastery at Whithorn. The first recorded pilgrims visit Ninian’s tomb.
About 840 Norse settlers arrive in Whithorn, possibly from the Dublin area. 843 AD Kenneth MacAlpin becomes King of the Picts and Scots.
About 950 – 1050 Stone carvers at Whithorn create the round-headed crosses seen in the Priory Museum.
1150 Whithorn’s church is replaced by a new cathedral.
About 1177 The Premonstratensian Order establishes a priory at Whithorn and acts as the cathedral’s staff.
