Cross slab fragment
On
the front is an encircled cross with expanded arms and a depression at the centre of the head. On the
back is an incised spiral within a circle.
This cross was probably carved
in the 700s when Whithorn was under Northumbrian control. Despite this the main artistic influences
appear to be Irish rather than Anglian.
